Russians have been living by established norms for a long time, nothing has changed for them after February 24, 2022, when Russia attacked Ukraine. To change their lives, they need a mass phenomenon that affects everyone, such as mobilization.
About thisChannel 24said publicist, Deutsche Welle columnist Konstantin Eggert. According to him, Ukrainians should prepare before a protracted war.
When the Russians rise up against Putin
Konstantin Eggert stressed that the Russians will oppose the authorities under certain conditions.
Protests should only start when the public is shocked or feels that its interests and values are being threatened by Putin and his regime,” he explained.
According to the publicist, people in Russia will be ready for decisive action if mass mobilization picks up and at the same time a significant amount of “cargo 200” returns home.
“Then there is a chance that something will change” – he emphasized.
According to Eggert, the Russians have been living in their “bubble”, that is, the comfort zone, for a long time, and not since the attack on Ukraine. In addition, the people of Russia are not characterized by solidarity that provokes immorality.
“When the internal balance advances, it starts to affect in such a way that you cannot ignore, then, perhaps, some protests can be expected “, – stressed the publicist.
So far, the situation plays into the hands of Russian President Vladimir Putin, because the people do not oppose him, despite the bodies of Russians being thrown into the territory of Ukraine.
“They themselves are leaving, they are not protesting. In this sense, even without a sledgehammer, he still has a reserve for this barbaric war,” he remarked.
However, this will not always be the case.

What's wrong with mobilization in Russia
Konstantin Eggert explained that Putin's main advantage is demographic. About 140 million people live in Russia, which is 3.5–4 times the population of Ukraine.
It is clear that not everyone will be called up, but obviously that this is a reserve,” he remarked.
According to him, if mobilization in Russia becomes permanent, then different methods will be used for this.
“There will be a lot of leverage in this case, so it will continue,” the publicist emphasized.
However, Russia has no military debt as such.
What Russians are afraid of
Eggert noted that many compare Russia's war with Ukraine to the war in Afghanistan.

“The Soviet army was totally conscription. The son of a professor and the son of a locksmith could get into it. And this equated many citizens,” he stressed.
According to him, it also put people's feelings on one level. All the mothers were worried that their sons would not die in Afghanistan.
“This formed a certain common understanding that no one needs this war,” he added.
However, no one doubted that this was the defense of the Soviet Union.
