French President Emmanuel Macron is increasingly being criticized for his claim that Russia should not be “humiliated”. Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipovsky questioned Macron's understanding of the situation.
Putin doesn't care how Russia is perceived in the West, – Czech Foreign Minister.
The head of the Czech Foreign Ministry said that Russian President Vladimir Putin is indifferent to how his country is perceived in the West. Lipovsky noted that Russia is an aggressor, which is why the so-called “question of humiliation” should not be on the agenda.
Russia is an aggressor, and we should not take into attention is neither humiliation nor humiliation. Macron, probably, is not very well versed in the issue, Putin does not care how Russia is perceived in the West, the minister said.
Lipovsky noted the importance of weapons for Ukraine
The Czech minister said that the supply of weapons to Ukraine supports the security of the Czech Republic in the face of Russia's aggressive intentions. He said that it is better to provide weapons to Ukraine than to store them in warehouses.
“We can store weapons in a warehouse here or they can help in Ukraine,” the minister said.
In addition, Lipovsky said that the countries of the European Union, which are better armed, in particular Germany, could be more active in supplying weapons to Ukraine.
Why Macron is criticized
- The President Volodymyr Zelensky said in May that Macron offered Ukraine to make territorial concessions in order to allegedly “save Putin's face.”
- Retelling Macron's statement, Zelensky said that the French president had said that it was dangerous to humiliate an aggressor country. In response, the Ukrainian president stressed that Ukraine is not ready to cede its territories, as this is unfair.
- The French President also urged not to humiliate Russia, so that after the war she would get out of isolation. The French leader's statement was sharply criticized by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba.
- The head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry noted that Russia humiliates itself and should be put in its place.
- Macron's position did not find support in Poland . Poland's ambassador to Ukraine, Bartosz Cichocki, has suggested that those who want to save Putin's face give up their territories.
- Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz have been criticized for being in touch with Putin. Not all EU countries support this strategy.
- Polish President Andrzej Duda compared Putin to Adolf Hitler and said that no one called the German dictator on the phone and did not think how to save face.
- In Estonia, the head of the Foreign Affairs Commission, Marko Mihkelson, said that calls to Putin-this is the path to new aggression. Also, former Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite said that conversations with Putin are “calls to a terrorist.”
