Alexander Lukashenko announced the relevant information during a meeting with Putin. It happened on June 25.
Putin canceled a trip to the Belarusian city near the Polish border
During the meeting, the self-proclaimed President of Belarus said that together with Putin they would take part in the Forum of Regions in Grodno in the form of a videoconference.
We will discuss the issue of holding the Forum of Regions. I think that we, as usual, will participate in it in the form of a videoconference. Let's turn. This forum is held by parliamentarians – the upper houses of parliaments in our country and in Russia. They are well organized and will hold a very good forum in Grodno,” Lukashenka said.
It is worth recalling that this trip was already announced in the Kremlin earlier. In particular, on June 20, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin announced that Putin would arrive in Belarusian Grodno on June 30.
However, two days later, Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov began to say that Vladimir Putin's participation remains in doubt .
Feygin suggested the reason for Putin's trip to Grodno
Russian human rights activist Mark Feigin said that Vladimir Putin had to go to Grodno to finally convince Alexander Lukashenko to invade Ukraine.
That's why he goes there. But I don’t know how Lukashenka will react,” Feygin explained.
It should be noted that this was supposed to be Putin’s first trip abroad since the start of the full-scale war he started in Ukraine.
