Dictator Vladimir Putin said during his press conference that the operations of Russian units on the left bank of the Dnieper in Krynki (30 km northeast of Kherson) — this is nothing more than a targeted lure and distraction of Ukrainian forces.
Analysts at the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) believe that this is how Putin characterizes the inability of Russian troops to push the Defense Forces to the West Bank.
The Russian president's emphasis on the tactical situation near Krynki and his decision not to discuss other sectors of the front may reflect the sensitivity of the Russian information space regarding the situation on the occupied coast of the Kherson region.

Russian military commanders are increasingly criticizing Russia’s inability to oust the Ukrainian Armed Forces from the eastern bank. And Putin’s comment, as ISW experts note, is a criticism of the Russian Dnepr group of troops. The group itself consists of disparate elements of units and formations and the newly created 104th Airborne Division of the Russian Federation.
The UK Ministry of Defense previously reported that elements of the 104th Division suffered exceptionally heavy losses during attempts to dislodge the Ukrainian Armed Forces from the eastern bank of the Kherson region in early December 2023.
Ukrainian military observer Konstantin Mashovets also stated that the Russian 328th and 337th Airborne Regiments (104th Airborne Division) suffered significant losses of equipment and personnel during five days of continuous attacks on the eastern bank. These reports of significant losses of the 104th Airborne Division cast doubt on Putin's claims about a successful Russian operation to lure and divert Ukrainian forces.
According to ISW, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue fighting on the occupied coast of the Kherson region.
