Vladimir Putin was asked in Vietnam about the likelihood of involving the North Korean military in the war against Ukraine. The Russian dictator replied that this was not necessary.

The possibility of Pyongyang's troops participating in the war has been discussed since relations between the two regimes warmed significantly. The June visit was the Russian dictator's first trip to North Korea in 24 years.

DPRK troops in the war against Ukraine

Vladimir Putin responded during a press conference on June 20 that there is no need to use soldiers from the DPRK for the war in Ukraine. According to him, the “mutual defense” agreement concluded with North Korea is also in no way tied to military confrontation.

Regarding the possibility of both “to use each other’s capabilities in this conflict: we don’t ask anyone for this, no one offered it to us,” Putin added.

Putin also said that what he called “Russia's proposals for resolving the conflict” will change depending on the situation.

Also during his speech, the Russian dictator once again accused Ukraine in “aggression” against the so-called “DPR” and “LPR”. However, there is only one aggressor in the war – Russia, which launched the invasion back in 2014. Interestingly, during the same press conference, Putin said that “the enemy’s strikes on Russian territory are close to aggression.”

In addition, The dictator talked a lot about negotiations. Thus, he recalled his ultimatum and noted that “Russia’s proposals” to resolve the situation in Ukraine supposedly will not last forever. According to the Russian President, they will change depending on the line of contact. Putin called the West's reaction to his “peace plans” expected.
