The Russian command is trying create zones of instability near the Ukrainian border, as well as make it look like a threat of an attack by Russian and pro-Russian armed forces from the territory of Transnistria.
However, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry is convinced that the Russians are artificially escalating the situation in the unrecognized Transnistria .
All because of Russia's defeats
This is due to the fact that Russia is aware that it does not have any noticeable and significant success in the so-called “special operation”, that is, in the war against Ukraine.
It is thanks to the effectiveness and success of the Armed Forces of Ukraine that Russia is trying to escalate the situation in the unrecognized Transnistria.
According to the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, the Russian invaders want to use this situation as a psychological attack against Ukraine. In addition, they are looking for ways and opportunities to disperse the forces of the Ukrainian army and somehow influence the solid defense of the Ukrainian Donbass and the south of the country.
Most of all ammunition has expired
At the same time, experts note that the number of really combat-ready and motivated personnel of the unit of the Operational Group of Russian Forces in Transnistria does not exceed 300 people. And their task now is to protect the ammunition depots in the village of Kolbasna.
More than half of all stored ammunition has reached its expiration date and cannot be transported. Only 7-8 thousand tons are serviceable and can be used,” the main intelligence department said in a statement.
If we talk about all the military equipment that is on the territory of Pridnestrovie, then approximately two-thirds are either completely or partially not combat-ready. Also, Ukrainian intelligence reports that in Pridnestrovie there are neither material resources nor production capacities that could be involved in the repair and restoration of equipment.
How Russia can use Transnistria
Intelligence notes that potentially Russia can use Transnistria as a springboard for establishing supply lines and ensuring the deployment of the Russian group on the territory of Moldova.
But this will only be possible if a land corridor to Russia through the territory of the southern regions of Ukraine is created,” the ministry added.
The situation in Transnistria: what they say about it
Recall that the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Alexei Danilov, said that the Ukrainian authorities are carefully monitoring how Russia is trying to undermine the situation in the unrecognized Transnistria.
According to him, the plans of the Russian invaders for a land corridor to the Transnistria before May 9 are unrealistic.
At the same time, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine noted that the situation in the Transnistrian region of Moldova remains tense. The Russians have been spreading various provocative and deceptive messages about an alleged threat from Ukraine, but they have called it an ordinary fake. In particular, Russia arranges various provocations, in particular, claims that Ukraine has launched drones over ammunition depots; arranges explosions near the “Ministry of State Security” and blows up TV towers and the like.
Let's add that for several years the Moldovan government, together with the UN General Assembly, has been demanding that Russia withdraw its troops from this territory. But the invaders do not react to this in any way.
