The South Korean Foreign Ministry has summoned Russia's ambassador to Seoul, Georgy Zinoviev. This move was a sign of protest against sending North Korean troops to the country to participate in the war.

The BBC reports this, citing the Yonhap agency. According to journalists, Russia and North Korea still deny reports of North Korean troops preparing to participate in the invasion of Ukraine.

It is noted that the ambassador met with South Korean First Vice Foreign Minister Kim Hong-kyun. However, the South Korean Foreign Ministry did not respond to a request for comment.

Last week, South Korean intelligence said that Pyongyang intended to send 12,000 of its troops to Russia to participate in the war against Ukraine. Allegedly, 1,500 special forces soldiers are already at military bases in the Far East “for training and acclimatization.”

By the way, earlier the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate Kirill Budanov confirmed that by November, 11,000 North Korean troops would be ready to fight in Ukraine. The first cadre of 2,600 North Korean soldiers will go to the Kursk region, using Russian equipment and ammunition.
