Priority will be given to domestic production: Estonia to change the structure of military aid to Ukraine

by alex

Estonia wants to restructure military aid to Ukraine so that it is dominated by products of Estonian enterprises.

This was stated by the Minister of Defense of Estonia Hanno Pevkura on the Estonian television news program, writes the ERR agency.

In 2024, Estonia allocated about 100 million euros in military aid to Ukraine. The country intends to continue this policy in the future, but changes are expected in the structure of the aid.

— We told Ukraine that we would give what we (ourselves, — Ed.) produce and we would clearly direct this money to the Estonian economy, to the Estonian defense industry. Therefore, we continue to negotiate with the Ukrainians about what our capabilities are, — the Minister of Defense stated.

Military aid from Estonia

According to Pevkur, the Estonian defense industry is capable of producing goods worth more than 100 million euros per year. We are currently continuing to clarify Ukraine's needs in order to adapt our products to these needs.

— We have provided Ukraine (information, — Ed.) about our capabilities and are now trying to find a reasonable compromise that takes into account their priorities and our production capabilities. Production should also be quickly pulled up if (there are needed, — Ed.) some specific products, — the Minister of Defense noted.

After receiving the list of priority products for Ukraine, Estonia plans to organize state tenders. As Pevkur noted, all Estonian enterprises that produce the necessary products could participate in them.

The Minister of Defense noted that all Estonian military products that have been supplied to Ukraine so far have only positive reviews and were necessary. These products include, in particular, combat situation analysis tools, drones from Threod, military boats and anti-drone guns from Rantelon.
