In recent weeks, the transfer of German Leopard tanks to Ukraine has been actively discussed. In general, Germany's policy towards our state has moved significantly compared to February 24 last year.
Thus, the German policy towards Ukraine has undergone major changes, but they are still insufficient. This opinion Channel 24 was voiced by Deutsche Welle publicist and columnist Konstantin Eggert.
“The Germans need to get rid of the complex”
The fact is that Germany must get rid of the serious complex that it has had since the end of World War II. Namely, that “the Germans are a nation that does not fight.” Moreover, not only directly, but also does not contribute to others in this matter.
Now the Germans will have to give up this and this has fallen to the lot of the Social Democrat Olaf Scholz, – said the Deutsche Welle columnist.
In his opinion, Scholz finds it difficult to deal with this issue, since there is a tradition behind it, permeated in Germany with a very strong rejection of any war. In addition, the traditions of the eastern policy that was carried out against the USSR play a big role here.

Eggert noted that the appointment of Boris Pistorius as the new German defense minister does not mean the transfer of Leopard tanks to our state. Thus, the policy of the Germans towards Ukraine depends directly on Chancellor Scholz.
It must be understood that all Ukrainian politics is the policy of Chancellor Scholz. It so happened that he defines it, – noted the Deutsche Welle columnist.
According to him, the pressure on Germany regarding the provision of Leopard tanks to Ukraine is growing. In addition, the terrible tragedy in the Dnieper on January 14 “added heat to the debate in Germany.” According to Eggert, the Germans are now seeing images of their cities, which were also reduced to ruins.
