American research company RAND Corp. presented the scenario of a possible attack by the DPRK on South Korea. The related report published on the website of the company.
Experts have described the five scenarios of possible attacks by Pyongyang. The first refers to the five-minute attack on the South Korean major industrial facility, the second about the one-minute attack along the demilitarized zone, the third about one-minute attack on the heart of Seoul, the fourth — about a one-hour attack along the demilitarized zone and the fifth — about one-hour attack on the center of Seoul. In the scenarios considered the approximate amount of artillery North Korea, population density in the potential affected area and the estimated location of people.
According to analysts, the number of victims in case of impact of Pyongyang will be a minimum of 4.5 thousand people. In this one-hour attack on the demilitarized zone will lead to the deaths of more than 200 thousand people, experts say.
They also pointed out that the main task for South Korea, the US and its allies is to avoid a situation where the DPRK will be forced to strike at a neighbouring state.
Earlier in June, in the North Korean city of Kaesong near the border with South Korea there was an explosion. It happened shortly after the news about the plans of the DPRK to deploy troops in the demilitarized border region. Pyongyang has set out to strengthen the border with its southern neighbors.
