Preparing for 'worst case scenario': Norway to resume shelter construction

Officials offer two types of shelters.

Norway plans to resume construction of bomb shelters, preparing for the “worst case scenario”.

This was reported by NRK.

According to the government, not a single bomb shelter has been built in Norway since 1998. But the war in Ukraine has shown that they save lives. That's why the government wants more of them in Norway.

“There is more uncertainty around us. We have to take care of the civilian population in the event of a 'worst case scenario' of war or an armed attack. In that case, shelters are one of the necessary protective measures,” said Norway's Minister of Justice and Public Security Emilia Enger Mehl.

The government is currently proposing two types of shelters. One is for modern shelters that protect against chemical and radioactive substances and explosives, and the other is for conventional weapons. Metro stations or underground parking lots can be converted into this type of shelter.

“We are now effectively establishing a requirement that buildings over 1,000 square meters must have shelters,” she added.

Recall that Deputy Speaker of the Norwegian Parliament Sven Harberg noted in his speech at the Third Parliamentary Summit of the Crimean Platform that if Russia proves that force can achieve its goals, then no country in Europe will feel safe.
