On August 24, Portuguese Foreign Minister João Gomes Cravinho arrived in Kyiv. The country will join the restoration of schools in Zhitomir, Bucha and Irpen.
Cravinho met with President Volodymyr Zelensky. The head of state highly appreciated that the Minister of Foreign Affairs arrived in Ukraine on the 31st anniversary of the restoration of its independence.

President noted that he was grateful to the head of the Portuguese Foreign Ministry for coming, despite the sirens.
“I am glad that more and more people and states that are also not afraid of Russian aggression are becoming around Ukraine,” Zelensky stressed .
During the meeting, we discussed the following support for Ukraine by Portugal, in particular:
- in strengthening the defense capability,
- in strengthening the sanctions pressure on Russia.
Zelensky called on the Portuguese minister to introduce visa restrictions against Russians. He also thanked for the participation of Portugal in the second summit of the Crimean Platform and noted the importance of keeping the issue of the de-occupation of Crimea on the international agenda.
Portugal will join the restoration of Ukraine
Kravinho and Zelensky discussed the participation of Portugal in the restoration of the educational infrastructure of Zhytomyr and the schools of Irpin and Bucha with the support of the municipality of Cascais. The head of state highly appreciated the humanitarian mission of the Portuguese minister of the Zhytomyr region.
Restoration of educational institutions that return our schoolchildren to school, students to universities, and children to kindergartens is for us a priority. This is the first step towards the restoration of our state,” the president noted.
He added that Portugal is one of the first states that actually joins the program for the restoration of Ukraine. The President hopes that it will also join the renewal at the global level.
Cravigno noted that it is an honor for him to be in Ukraine on the 31st anniversary of its independence and represent his country. According to the minister, he came to retell the words of solidarity and political, security and humanitarian support from the president, prime minister, government and people of Portugal.
