Pope Leo XIV met with Zelensky: Vatican offers Ukraine and Russia negotiations

Pope Leo XIV confirmed the Vatican’s readiness to become a venue for negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.

This was discussed during the meeting of the pontiff with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, which took place on July 9 at the summer residence of Leo XIV in Castel Gandolfo.

“During the sincere conversation, the importance of dialogue as the best way to end hostilities was confirmed,” the statement said.

The Pope expressed his condolences for the many victims of the war, renewed his prayers for the Ukrainian people and stressed his support for all efforts aimed at the release of prisoners and the search for mutually acceptable solutions.

The message emphasizes that the Holy Father once again confirmed his readiness to receive representatives of Ukraine and Russia in the Vatican for peace talks.

This is not the first such initiative by the pontiff. He previously proposed the Vatican as a neutral platform for dialogue, but Russia rejected this opportunity, citing religious and geopolitical reasons.

In Moscow, in particular, they stated that the Holy See is located in Italy, a NATO and EU member country that openly supports Ukraine.
