Russian invaders destroyed Popasnaya/Channel 24 collage the situation at the front. Now our Armed Forces have been forced to leave the city of Popasna in the Luhansk region.
This was reported to Channel 24 by Fyodor Venislavsky, a member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security and Defense. He noted that the enemy continues to mercilessly hit the settlements from the territories that he occupied back in 2014.
Destroyed city
According to him, today, May 9, during a meeting of the command of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, it became known about the situation in Popasna.
Popasna was actually completely destroyed. Our Armed Forces retreated to pre-prepared defense lines in order to save manpower and equipment as much as possible. Venislavsky said.
Enemy target
As he noted, now Russian infidels are trying to attack Ukrainian cities in the direction of Severodonetsk, Slavyansk and Barvenkove from certain areas of the Luhansk and Donetsk regions. That is how the enemy seeks to surround our grouping of the Joint Forces.
This is their goal. Take control of the territory of the Luhansk and Donetsk regions within the administrative limits,” Venislavsky noted.
He stressed that the enemy is also strengthening its positions in the temporarily occupied territories of the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, so as not to allow our Armed Forces to move quickly. According to him, the Russian invaders understand that the Ukrainian military will counterattack in that direction as soon as there are enough grounds for this and the right moment appears.
Successful counterattacks
Besides, Venislavsky noted that the enemy is bringing up additional reserves from Belgorod – new battalions of tactical groups. So they want to prevent our military from quickly reaching the borders from the Kharkiv region.
This is what they are trying to make impossible. However, the counterattacks of our Armed Forces are quite successful, including in the Donbass. There are also, which are in the Kharkiv region, it is possible to take control of individual settlements, – he stressed.
He explained that the fighting is now ongoing, which consists in the most intense shelling of our positions from the enemy. However, the Armed Forces of Ukraine also respond to the invaders with rocket and artillery fire from our multiple launch rocket systems and artillery, in particular, the latest weapons that Ukraine has recently received from Western partners.
“I am convinced that this can also significantly change the balance of power in our favor,” Venislavsky emphasized.
Plans are being implemented
According to him, what is happening at the front is expected, because, as a member of the national security committee, our military leadership informed about this.
“We see that the plan that our military command has is being implemented step by step. This allows us to be optimistic about the liberation of our land,” Venislavsky summed up.

- The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported , that the Russians continue offensive actions in the East of Ukraine. The occupiers want to take control of the territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
- According to the General Staff, Russian invaders are most active in the Slobozhansky and Donetsk directions. At the same time, the battle for the village of Rubezhnoye continues in the Severodonetsk direction.
- In addition, the Russians will regroup enemy units in order to prepare offensive operations in the Novopavlovsk, Zaporozhye, South Buzh and Tauride directions. The enemy is building up firepower and air defense systems.
