The United States intends to protect Europe from the construction of Russian gas pipeline “Nord stream-2”. This was stated by us Secretary of state Mike Pompeo, reports Reuters.
“We will do everything in our power to see that this pipeline is not threatened Europe”, โ said the diplomat during testimony to the Senate Committee on foreign relations.
28 July the US warned Germany about the threat from the pipeline: according to the American side, it is a tool of Moscow on strengthening of Europe’s dependence on supplies from Russia.
Earlier, the house of representatives approved defense budget in 2021, which contains expanded sanctions against Russian pipeline “Nord stream-2”. In particular, the project proposes to extend restrictive measures on companies and individuals who contribute significantly to the sale, lease, or provision of ships for laying of pipes for construction of gas pipelines, as well as their insurance.
The gas pipeline “Nord stream-2” from Russia to Germany under the Baltic sea was supposed to start in late 2019. The project launch date was postponed to the turn of the 2020-2021 years, first because of the position of Denmark, which did not coordinate the route of the project through their water and then because of the U.S. sanctions against companies involved in the project.
