Polish tennis player Iga Swiatek won the WTA Finals 2023 in Cancun, Mexico. In the final, she beat American Jessica Pegula in two sets with a crushing score of 6:1, 6:0.
This is Iga's first WTA Finals title in his career. Last year she stopped at the semi-final stage.
Having won the sixth title of the season and the 17th overall, 22-year-old Swiatek returned to the leaders of the WTA rankings and will end the current year as the first racket of the world, displacing the “neutral” Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka from this position.

If we count the number of matches won during the season, then for the Pole this was the 68th victory this year. This is the most victories in a year since American Serena Williams triumphed over her opponents 79 times in 2013.
According to her, the status of the first racket was a heavy burden for her when she first achieved it. She said she felt a little like an impostor, but now knows she deserves her place.
— 2022 was a wonderful year, so I didn’t know if I would be able to repeat such a season. At the end, I no longer felt like I was in the shadows because I knew I had another great season ahead of me. And to be honest, I accepted that I wouldn't have the same season as 2022 and just looked forward. “I learned my lesson and didn’t want (first place – Ed. ) to influence me,” Swiatek said.
Swiatek became only the fourth tennis player to win a WTA final at the age of 23. Previously, Kim Clijsters, Maria Sharapova and Petra Kvitova succeeded in this.
