Polish farmers blocking the border with Ukraine realized that their protests are being used by Russia to incite discord between Ukrainians and Poles.

Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine Taras Kachka spoke about this on the air of the One News telethon.

He noted that closing the border is harmful for the Polish economy even more than for the Ukrainian one.

— The good thing is that the farmers themselves realized that their protests are being used by radical politicians and Russian intelligence services, who are trying to create the impression of interethnic hostility between Ukrainians and Poles, — he said.

According to Kachka, protest leaders have admitted that they are being taken advantage of, and the Polish government is already investigating these incidents.

Thanks to working with the Polish government, farmers’ demands are becoming more rational, noted the Deputy Minister of Economy.

So, the Polish government was able to convince farmers that in products such as wheat, they compete not with Ukrainian, but with Russian. And not on the territory of Poland, but in the region.

Kachka noted that the goal of our and the Polish government — find mutual understanding to unblock the border.

Blocking of the Polish-Ukrainian border

Now Polish farmers continue to block the movement of trucks at six checkpoints: Ugrinov, Yagodin, Ustilug, Rawa-Russkaya, Krakovets and Shegini.

On March 1, farmers completely blocked the Shegini checkpoint. They did not allow trucks to leave or enter. Yagodin was also partially blocked.

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal stated that the issue of unblocking the border with Poland must be resolved before March 28, otherwise Ukraine reserves the right to apply mirror measures at checkpoints.
