Polish carriers continue to block the border with Ukraine. Moreover, they threaten that they will not lift the blockade in the next few months.

The organizer of the action to block checkpoints on the border between Poland and Ukraine spoke about his intention. We are talking about Rafal Mekler, who heads the cell of the far-right Confederation party in Lublin.

Ready to block the border for another two months

According to him, carriers in Poland are ready to block the Ukrainian-Polish border for more than two months. He noted that the protesters submitted an application. It involves extending the action at the Yagodin-Dorogusk checkpoint until February 1, 2024.

Let us recall that on the evening of November 19, Deputy Minister of Development of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine Sergei Derkach made a statement. In it, he said that carriers from Poland, blocking the border with our state, have repeatedly impeded the movement of tanks with fuel, as well as humanitarian aid. And this despite the fact that they promised not to do this.

What is known about the border blockade

  • So, from November 6, Polish carriers blocked the movement of trucks. And they did this at three of the four checkpoints on the Polish-Ukrainian border.
  • We are talking about “Grebnoye – Rava-Russkaya”, “Korcheva – Krakovets”, as well as “Dorogusk – Yagodin”.
  • Already on November 17, the organizers of the border blocking made another statement. It emphasized that they also plan to close the Medica-Shegini crossing point, which was the last one opened between the states. The corresponding plan was voiced by one of the organizers of the action, Tomasz Borkowski.
  • Please note that Ukraine and the European Union signed an Agreement on Freight Transport by Road on June 29, 2022. At first it was supposed to be valid for a year with the possibility of extension. And it was continued until the end of June 2024.
  • The Ministry of Infrastructure noted that after the signing of the relevant Agreement, the number of carriers crossing the border towards the EU increased by 53% compared to the same period in 2021. And the number of intersections itself increased by 43%.
