A gas-filled tanker truck crashed into a checkpoint on the Kyiv-Kovel-Yahodyn highway in the Rivne region. As a result of the incident, one police officer was killed, another law enforcement officer and a military man were injured.

The accident occurred on Saturday, September 28, at about 08:15 on the Kyiv-Kovel-Yahodyn highway.

The investigation has preliminarily established that the driver of the DAF tanker truck, a 64-year-old resident of the city of Kremenchuk, crashed into a checkpoint on the border of the Rivne and Zhytomyr regions for reasons that have not yet been determined.
A 40-year-old police officer died in the accident. Two other people, a 28-year-old dog handler and a 27-year-old soldier, were seriously injured and are in hospital.
The National Police reported that the deceased was Senior Police Sergeant Serhiy Trum, a police driver in Platoon No. 2 of the escort service company of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Rivne region. He turned 40 a few days ago. A 16-year-old son was left without a father.
The truck driver received minor bodily injuries, according to the examination — sober. Due to the state of shock, he cannot explain anything yet. He was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and placed in a temporary detention facility.
As a result of the collision, the official car of the community police officer was also damaged. The law enforcement officer himself was not injured.
The police added that the tank was filled with gas, but fortunately, it did not depressurize.
A pre-trial investigation is being conducted under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine regarding the violation of traffic safety rules that resulted in the death of the victim. The police are establishing the circumstances of the incident.
