Poland will not shoot down missiles over Ukraine without NATO permission

Poland cannot respond to Ukraine’s request to shoot down Russian missiles from its territory unless all NATO partners give such permission.

This was announced by the Minister of National Defense of Poland Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysh, Polskie Radio reports.

He explained that Kyiv has repeatedly turned to Warsaw for help in intercepting Russian missiles flying over the western part of Ukraine.

But Warsaw, according to Kosiniak-Kamysh, will not make such decisions on its own.

— Of course, there are other procedures for missiles on the territory of the Republic. Then this decision depends only on us, — he emphasized.

The head of the Polish defense department drew attention to the position of the United States on this issue.

At the same time, White House national security spokesman John Kirby indicated that NATO considers the possibility of Poland's participation in the shooting down of Russian missiles as a reason for the escalation of the war.

— We are looking for ways to make Ukraine effective, but we don’t want escalation. It wouldn’t be good for the Ukrainians, it wouldn’t be good for the Poles, it wouldn’t be good for anyone,” he explained.

A Biden administration spokesman added that the United States does not interfere in any way with Polish self-defense procedures.

“We just don’t want to give Putin arguments that the war was provoked by NATO, that it is a war between Russia and the West or Russia and the United States,” Kirby concluded.
