Poland will create a 60 km buffer zone on the border with Belarus

Poland announced the introduction of a 60 km buffer zone on the border with Belarus.

This decision was Warsaw's response to a fatal incident in which a Polish soldier died from a knife wound inflicted by an illegal migrant.

Seimas deputy Czeslav Mroczek spoke about this.

โ€“ The decree introducing the restricted zone will be signed on Wednesday. We will have time to complete the entire government work process and it will take effect on Thursday, — explained the politician.

Mrochek explained that the length of the buffer location will be more than 60 km and will be introduced on two sections of the border where the most frequent and aggressive attempts at illegal crossing were observed.

Migration crisis on the border with Belarus

The migration crisis on the Belarusian-Polish and Lithuanian borders arose in the spring of 2021.

Then there was a massive influx of migrants from third world countries who tried to break through to Europe through Belarus.

Attempts to illegally violate the border led to repeated clashes with border guards, who at times called for reinforcements from the police, the National Guard and even the regular army.

The authorities of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and other European countries have repeatedly stated that the crisis was artificially caused and provoked by dictator Alexander Lukashenko, as an accomplice of the Kremlin, to destabilize the situation in the EU states.
