The head of the Ministry of National Defense of Poland, Mariusz Blaszczak, said that she was trying to deploy a brigade group in Poland in NATO structures.

A NATO summit will soon be held in Madrid, which will set the priorities and directions for developing the Alliance's capabilities in the coming years.

Next week, NATO will hold a summit in Madrid, where leaders are likely to adopt a new Strategic Concept, discuss increasing the forces of the Alliance on the eastern flank, as well as continued assistance to Ukraine.

As Mariusz Blaszczak noted, this meeting will be of exceptional importance, because Russian aggression against Ukraine has forever changed the global security system.

Poland wants a NATO brigade group on its territory

The Polish Defense Minister said that the Polish side is seeking to strengthen the NATO deterrence and defense forces on the eastern flank.

We are looking for more troops and want to increase the readiness of allied forces in the event of a threat. I confirm that we are trying to place a brigade group in NATO structures in Poland,” she said.

What will be discussed at the NATO summit

Mariusz Blaszczak said that the NATO summit in Madrid “will strengthen further global coordination of assistance to Ukraine.” We are talking not only about the supply of weapons, but also about assistance in training Ukrainian soldiers and humanitarian issues. At the same time, she noted that the Alliance must determine its role in the process of restoring Ukraine.

The Madrid summit will strengthen further global coordination of assistance to Ukraine. I mean not only the supply of weapons and equipment necessary for defense, but also assistance in the training of Ukrainian soldiers and humanitarian assistance to the population of this country. The Alliance must also determine its role in the process of rebuilding Ukraine,” Blaszczak said.

The Minister of Defense emphasized that a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine is a problem for the entire free world and, of course, this issue will be discussed. She also said that the Alliance will discuss cybersecurity and terrorism.

NATO is already backing its partners from countries most vulnerable to Russian attack, such as Georgia and Moldova. The security of our region, including the eastern flank of the Alliance, and hence the entire NATO, is now a priority issue, but not the only one – among the topics discussed in Madrid, issues related to cybersecurity, terrorism, – the minister said.
