Poland plans to train a tank brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine until March

Ukraine will receive 14 Leopard 2 tanks from Poland. New assistance regarding tanks was announced at the Ramstein meeting.

This was announced by the Minister of Defense of Poland in the Ministry of Defense of Poland Mariusz Blaszczak. He took part in the meeting of the Contact Group on the Defense of Ukraine, which unites more than 50 states.

“As part of the new support package for Ukraine, I presented our Polish support, which consists in the fact that we can how to equip and train Ukrainian soldiers by the end of March at the brigade level,” the minister said.

The Ukrainian military will train on infantry fighting vehicles and T-72 tanks.

Poland plans coalition

Blaszczak held talks with representatives of 15 countries using Leopard tanks. Heavy equipment can be transferred to Ukraine within the framework of the coalition.

We talked about equipping Ukraine with these heavy tanks. This is important because the 14 countries meeting today at Ramstein have such tanks. We want to create a coalition of countries that have these tanks and that could equip Ukraine with them. We plan further meetings, – said the Minister of Defense.

He noted that, probably, now the meetings will be held in the format of a videoconference. He is convinced that coalition building will be successful.

  • On January 11, Polish President Andrzej Duda announced in Lvov that he would transfer 14 Leopard tanks to Ukraine.
  • German government spokeswoman Christian Hoffmann said that the decision to transfer heavy Leopard tanks should be taken by the country together with the allies.
