Poland is looking for “creative” solutions that would help Ukraine survive the difficult winter.
Poland has offered to produce electricity for Ukraine using European money, provided that the country does not have to pay for additional emissions generated by burning coal at thermal power plants. Poland could send this electricity to Ukraine via the existing energy bridge.
This statement was made by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk during a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday, July 8.
“The energy issue is of crucial importance. We are currently working on this in Poland. And our specialists are discussing how we can directly help Ukraine's electricity supply before winter,” Tusk said.
The Prime Minister noted that Ukraine's entire energy structure is under threat of Russian attacks “for obvious reasons,” because “after all, we know very well what Putin's goal is.”
“We are working to be able to burn Polish coal, which we currently have a lot, and in such a way that we do not have to pay for burning this coal, that is, for emissions. And send electricity produced by Polish power plants from Polish coal for European money through the existing energy bridge to Ukraine,” Donald Tusk explained.
He noted that in this way, of course, it will not be possible to completely solve the problem of providing Ukraine with electricity, but this “can at least partially help Ukraine survive this difficult winter.”
The head of the Polish government added that his country will encourage all partners “to search for creative ideas” to support the Ukrainian energy system.
Recall that the general director of the Yasno company, Sergey Kovalenko, predicts that under the baseline scenario, power outages in winter will continue for 12 hours a day. day.
