Poland Extends Stay Period for Ukrainians

Polish President Andrzej Duda extended the period of stay of Ukrainian refugees in a friendly country from June 30, 2024 to September 30, 2025.

The amendment, which was signed by Duda, provides for the payment of educational benefits and Good Start benefits to citizens of Ukraine if the child is studying in an educational institution in Poland.

The document also defines a period of 36 months during which students from Ukraine can participate in additional free Polish language classes.

Under the law, to obtain a PESEL number (analogous to an ID), a Ukrainian must present a valid travel document, and an application for PESEL with UKR status will need to be submitted “immediately upon arrival” to the territory of Poland.

Conditions for Polish landlords

At the same time, the amendment, effective July 1, abolishes benefits related to compensation for the costs of accommodation and food for refugees, which are borne by private landlords.

In addition, it is planned to introduce specific grounds for revocation of temporary residence permits for citizens of Ukraine.
