Meaningless movements: what could have prompted Scholz to talk to Putin right now Angela Figin

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz spoke with Vladimir Putin on the phone for the first time in almost two years. According to media reports, the conversation lasted about an hour. The German politician and the Russian dictator discussed ending the war in Ukraine.

The call to Putin on the eve of the redistribution of “portfolios” in Germany looks rather strange, Russian opposition journalist Igor Yakovenko told 24 Kanal. He suggested why Scholz called the dictator now and who could have been the initiator of this conversation.

Why did Scholz call Putin

Igor Yakovenko noted that now the initiative of the negotiation process has passed to Donald Trump, so what role can Scholz play here – unless the newly elected US president asked him to go on reconnaissance.

This hypothesis also has a right to exist, so we'll see. I am skeptical about ending the war now through negotiations. I'll be very happy if I'm wrong, but it seems to me that it is simply impossible to persuade Putin to end the war on terms acceptable to Ukraine. The goals are opposite, so it will not be possible to find a compromise point here, – said the Russian opposition journalist.

This is probably Trump's request to scout out the situation so that the “chief negotiator” can take action, roughly knowing Putin's mood.

Please note! Political science candidate, international expert Stanislav Zhelikhovsky believes that Scholz could have played the role of a “mouthpiece” in the context of the negotiation process and an alternative in case Putin does not want to compromise.

After Trump's victory in the presidential election, Putin increased the intensity of shelling by 1.5 times. The Kremlin is making efforts to drive Ukrainian troops out of the Kursk region. At the same time, the Russian army is attracting even more forces to seize territories in Donbass.

This is all connected with Trump's victory and his statement that he will negotiate a ceasefire. What Putin is doing now is pre-sale preparation, Yakovenko noted.

That is, the Russian dictator is trying to create the most advantageous situation for himself before possible negotiations with Trump. Under such conditions, it is hardly possible to talk about the prospects of negotiations or the creation of peace on terms acceptable to Ukraine.

President Volodymyr Zelensky responded to Scholz's conversation with Putin. He noted that Russia has not changed its political position. Therefore, negotiations with an aggressor country have never ended in anything.

By the way, after a telephone conversation with the German Chancellor, Vladimir Putin said that Russia is allegedly always ready for negotiations, but it is necessary to take into account the “new territorial realities”.
