Bashar al-Assad fled to Moscow with his family. The ousted Syrian president could have been delivered to the Russian capital by a plane that took off from Latakia.

This was reported by 24 Channel with reference to journalists from the Russian BBC service. Russia has already officially confirmed that Bashar al-Assad was indeed granted asylum after his escape from Syria.

What was the route of the plane that could have carried Assad

As journalists wrote, the Russian plane took off from Latakia several hours before 20:00 Kyiv time, then turned off the transponder and headed towards Russia.

The plane could have taken off from the Russian military base Khmeimim or from the Latakia airport, the publication noted.

They also emphasized that data on this route can be seen on the Flightradar website, which monitors the movement of aircraft.

The plane's transponder was briefly turned on near Moscow and then turned off again before landing.

It is worth noting that the Russian Khmeimim airbase was located in Latakia, which was created in 2015 amid active military support for the Bashar al-Assad regime by Vladimir Putin. This base was a key element of Russia's military strategy in the region.

It served to deploy aircraft, in particular bombers and fighters, and also ensured control over a significant part of the Eastern Mediterranean.

By the way, the Syrian opposition has already entered Latakia and Tartus, where Russian military bases are located. These were the last parts of Syrian territory that remained under the control of the Assad regime.
