Permanent “spoiled field”: why sociology shows support for the war in Russia

by alex

According to research by the Yuri Levada Analytical Center, 48% of Russians are in favor of a Russian-Ukrainian war. However, the data of Russian sociology still do not always reproduce the real position of society.

Political scientist Aleksey Koshel told Channel 24 about this. According to him, Russians are always afraid to speak the truth.

Russian sociology in all its glory

Oleksiy Koshel stressed that in the tenth year of the war with Russia in Ukraine, there is not a single analytical center with proper funding and state support that would specialize in studying Russia's problems and studying it from the inside.

“This is extremely important, because we must know everything about the enemy: from psychological characteristics to conflicts within power, the nature of these conflicts, possible consequences. The enemy must be predicted,” he explained.

According to the political scientist, now we are relying on the data of the so-called “Russian sociology”, which are quite false.

He is convinced that Russian sociology can be identified with the term “corrupted field.”

“For example, Ukrainian sociologists never conduct research on January 1-2, because everyone has a headache after the New Year, everyone is busy eating salads. Or they don’t spend September 1, because a significant part takes their children to school,” he said.

Koshel noted that there are certain periods when sociology is not carried out.

In Russia, this is always a “spoiled circle,” he focused his attention.

Also important is the intimidation of the Russian nation.

“Honesty” polls

The political scientist said that Russians simply have a fear of telling the truth.

“They are afraid to just say the word 'war', go to a protest action, even express their opinion on Facebook, because there are precedents when they get a real prison term for such petty offenses,” he said.

In his opinion, he does not represent a situation where the interviewer telephones the respondent, a citizen of the Russian Federation, and gives the right to choose.

The intimidated Russian voter will always say: “I support Putin, I support the party, I support the war, I hate Ukrainians!” he explained.

The political scientist assured that this is the reason for the rather large numbers in sociological studies.

The real situation in Russia

Alexei Koshel said that the Levada Center is a fairly authoritative sociological structure. However, there are discrepancies in information in her studies.

“I remember last October, when the data of the Levada Center show that everything is fine, calm, and the director of the Levada Center in an interview speaks of a sharp increase in the number of dissatisfied people,” he stressed.

According to the political scientist, he has a serious suspicion that Russian sociologists from this center professionally conduct a real survey, and then simply “finish” the results that meet the requirements of the curators from the FSB and the Kremlin.

On the other hand, the numbers really show a large percentage of support for the war, hatred for Ukraine,” he said.

The political scientist confirmed that such support by Russians for the war against Ukraine approximately coincides with his subjective assessment of the data of Russian information sources.

Vladimir Putin announced the threat of the collapse of Russia: more

  • The dictator revealed information about the mythical plan of the West to divide the former USSR and Russia into castes. In Putin's vivid fantasy, the West wants to partition Russia in order to control it.
  • The war criminal also complained that such an ethnic group as the Russian people could disappear in the form in which it is today.
  • He expanded the rhetoric that if Russia loses the war against Ukraine, then the Russian Federation will cease to exist, as a result of which all Russians will allegedly be enslaved.
