Vladimir Zelensky instructed the government to consider a petition to introduce a mandatory exam for obtaining Ukrainian citizenship. Now they are actively working on this idea.
People's Deputy Natalia Pipa told Channel 24 about this. According to her, there are no precisely defined conditions for acquiring Ukrainian citizenship. However, there is some movement in this matter.
Ms. Pipa stressed that the President responded to this petition. Therefore, it is likely that the corresponding law will eventually be adopted. After all, Zelensky has a mono-majority in power, and the government is actively cooperating with the Office of the President.

The people's deputy recalled that Ukraine already has certain achievements in protecting the Ukrainian language. In particular, an exam in the state language for all who go to public office. But sometimes some officials try to influence certain decisions. Therefore, the actions of the authorities must be carefully controlled .
She gave an example of the situation in the National Commission for State Language Standards, which the authoritative Arina Demskaya recently left. According to Pipa, Education Minister Sergei Shkarlet wants to appoint his own person there, who could not even get a certificate in knowledge of the state language. Natalia Pipa did not release additional details, but promised to tell about it soon.
That is why she emphasizes that the future legislative act on this initiative should be carefully studied so that some deputies or other officials persons have not advanced ambiguous norms there.
According to Pipa, they are discussing the conditions that must be met in order to obtain citizenship. It is known about the mandatory examination of the knowledge of the state language. Also there is an idea that citizenship should be of different levels – with the ability to stay for 5, 10 years, the right to own property or vote. This will probably require more conditions to be met.
