International partners continue to provide Ukraine with the necessary weapons. However, Western countries are in no hurry to transfer Western-style tanks to Kyiv.
One of the reasons for this is the lack of appropriate logistics and capabilities in Ukraine for the repair of Western tanks. This was reported to Channel 24 by a military expert, reserve colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and instructor pilot Roman Svitan.
According to him, tanks are a technique that is quite difficult to manufacture and maintain.

In terms of complexity, a tank can be put on the level of an aircraft. The tank never works by itself. It is followed by another “train” of equipment – both a repair shop and a multi-purpose armored personnel carrier, which is needed to pull out the tank, – said a military expert.
Why Abrams tanks and Leopard 2 are not currently relevant for the Armed Forces
As Svitan noted, Ukraine asked the West for Abrams and Leopard 2 tanks. However, this technique is not very relevant for the Armed Forces of Ukraine due to the likely change in weather conditions.
Abrams and Leopard 2 tanks – heavy tanks. The weight of some positions of Leopard tanks reaches 60 – 66 tons. These are heavy vehicles that can sink into our soils during bad weather,โ said the reserve colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
What Ukraine needs most of all
According to him, now the most important for Ukraine is light armored vehicles, which are provided by Western partners.
Tanks are needed in summer and possibly already in winter. Such tanks will be able to operate on frozen ground,โ the military expert said.
Svitan added that Western partners do not agree on the transfer of Western models of tanks to Ukraine. Instead, Soviet samples of the T-72 are being handed over.
“These are 40-ton machines that can work in our weather conditions of the autumn-winter period,” a military expert noted.
