The Minister of Defense of Ukraine said that on October 11, 2022, it was first announced that Spain was ready to transfer Hawk air defense systems to Ukraine. After that, progress began.

The NASAMS solution was earlier, but then they came and IRIS-T, Hawk, Gepard, today Patriot is being continued, we have SAMP/T . That is, there are already different air defense weapons. And the partners do not stop there, – added the head of the defense department.

What will be in the concept of development of the Defense Forces

Now Ukraine has combined air defense system– the old Soviet, which was in service, and the modern one, which is gradual. In general, the concept for the development of the Defense Forces, which the state is working on with partners, will provide for a modern air defense system in Ukraine.

Ukraine needs more air defense

• The British Ministry of Defense has signed 3 contracts for the supply of air defense systems for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The total amount of assistance is more than 114 million US dollars. These funds were provided by the United Kingdom on behalf of the International Fund for Ukraine.
• At present, Ukraine is in dire need of air defense systems that can shoot down ballistic and supersonic missiles. We are talking about Patriot and SAMP/T. According to the adviser to the head of the Presidential Office Mykhailo Podoliak, in order to basically close the Ukrainian sky, 8-10 more Patriots are needed.
• The Lithuanian Ministry of Defense reported that the country would purchase two NASAMS air defense missile launchers for the Ukrainian army. According to the colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the reserve Roman Svitan, in order to cover the South of Ukraine, it is necessary to deploy at least 5 installations of such an air defense system. They can intercept all types of cruise missiles, but will not be able to cover the sky from ballistics. Therefore, in order to avoid a threat to the ports of the Odessa region, an additional Patriot or SAMP/T air defense system is needed.
