The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe has adopted a resolution that imposes sanctions against the Georgian authorities. In addition, it demands early parliamentary elections under PACE supervision.

What is known about the PACE sanctions against Georgia

The PACE resolution puts forward a strict demand to the Georgian authorities – to begin the process of early parliamentary elections, which must be held under the supervision of the Assembly.

The political impasse, when in Georgia there is a gap in trust between the authorities and civil society… can only be resolved through the organization of new truly democratic parliamentary elections… if these parliamentary elections are held under strict international supervision, the text says resolutions.

Note that 114 PACE deputies voted “for”, 13 – “against” and 7 abstained.

At the same time, PACE approved the credentials of the Georgian parliamentary delegation for the current session, but with certain restrictions. The Assembly will return to their review in April, and their continuation will depend on the fulfillment of PACE's political demands.

Georgia Withdrew from PACE

The head of the Georgian parliamentary delegation, Tea Tsulukiani, in a commentary to “European Pravda” announced the country's withdrawal from PACE against the backdrop of the Assembly's tough decision to impose sanctions against Georgian deputies.
