Alexander Lukashenko
The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) recommended that the Belarusian authorities cancel the results of the presidential elections in which Alexander Lukashenko won, since the voting was conducted with violations. This was reported by TASS with reference to the OSCE document.
The Belarusian government is invited to hold new, real presidential elections in compliance with international standards – to allow both its own and foreign observers.
According to the organization, there is “irrefutable evidence that the presidential elections on August 9, 2020 were rigged and that the Belarusian security forces committed massive and systematic human rights violations in response to peaceful demonstrations and protests.”
The protesters are also demanding new elections: protests have not stopped in the country for almost four months. The demonstrators also demand the resignation of the president and an end to political violence. Lukashenka has declared what is happening as a terrorist war and ordered to tighten the law in the field of law enforcement, justifying the use of force against dissent.
