Members of Orban's party "Fidesz" did not come to the meeting.
The Hungarian Party of the odious Prime Minister Viktor Orban boycotted the parliamentary meeting on Sweden's accession to NATO. This in turn will lead to further inhibition of the country’s accession to the Alliance.
This was reported by Bloomberg.
The Hungarian opposition convened a meeting to ratify Sweden's entry into the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. At the same time, members of Orban's Fidesz party did not come to the meeting.
The next time such an opportunity will be on February 26, when the Hungarian Parliament returns after the winter break. The country remains the only one that has not ratified Stockholm's bid.
Orban himself says his government supports Sweden's entry, but the corresponding bill has been stuck in parliament since mid-2022. The party has promised to delay ratification until the Swedish Prime Minister's visit to Budapest, which they consider necessary to atone for Stockholm's alleged criticism of Hungary's democratic backsliding.
“If this is an important issue for the Swedes, then obviously the Swedish Prime Minister will come to Budapest,” said one of the MPs.
Hungarian Prime Minister Orban commented on the allocation of 50 billion euros to Ukraine from the European Union.
