“Orban is Putin's Trojan horse in the EU”: a diplomatic scandal arose between Slovakia and Hungary

by alex

A diplomatic row broke out between Budapest and Bratislava. The reason for this was the criticism of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban by Slovak Foreign Minister Rastislav Kacer.

Rastislav Kacer said that Orban would express territorial claims of Slovakia if Putin managed to seize Ukraine. These words pretty much outraged Budapest.

Back to news caused a sharp reaction in Hungary. First, Deputy Foreign Minister Tomasz Menzer criticized the head of the Slovak Foreign Ministry. After that, the Ambassador of Slovakia was summoned to the Hungarian Foreign Ministry.

The head of the Slovak Foreign Ministry has already been called to apologize even by two deputies of the Slovak parliament. However, Rastislav Kacher is categorical – he will not apologize, because he is not criticizing the people of Hungary, but the specific policy of the leadership of this country.

I will not apologize to anyone for protecting the interests of my country . I have Hungarian roots, lived in Hungary for five years, I like Hungarians. This is not a conflict of nations. This is a critique of a particular policy,” Kacher said.

At the same time, the head of the Slovak Foreign Ministry called Viktor Orban “a Trojan horse of Putin's interests in the EU.” It should be noted that this is not the first time Rastislav Kucher has criticized Viktor Orban and his position on the war in Ukraine.

Orban caused heated discussions online

On February 9, as part of his second foreign visit during the invasion President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Brussels, where he delivered a powerful speech to the European Parliament and met with EU leaders. However, while the leaders of the EU countries welcomed Volodymyr Zelensky, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban did not budge and, as if indicatively, ignored the Ukrainian president. This behavior of the official did not go unnoticed by users of social networks, creating a lot of goals in this regard. By the way, we have collected the best of them here.

But then, obviously, Orban's office realized that the situation needed to be corrected, so a photo appeared on the pages of the Hungarian prime minister, where Orban shakes hands with Zelensky and a message where it is indicated, that Hungary is in the peace camp. Netizens called this message hypocrisy.
