Emmanuel Macron wants to convince Viktor Orban of the importance of EU countries supporting Ukraine. This is happening against the backdrop of the fact that the head of the Hungarian government is not enthusiastic about the start of negotiations on our state’s accession to the European Union.

Personal meeting of the French and Hungarian leaders should take place on June 26. Politicians will hold their conversation in Paris.

Macron wants to convince Orban of support for Ukraine

< p>Zeit journalists reported that Hungarian Prime Minister Orban, known for his reluctance to help Ukraine, will visit Paris in connection with the upcoming Hungarian presidency of the EU Council. This information was confirmed by the Elysee Palace. A meeting between the two leaders is scheduled ahead of the next EU summit, which will take place on June 27.

At the same time, Orban has already criticized the start of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union, which began on 25 June in Luxembourg. The head of the Hungarian government told reporters that his country “does not agree with this accession process” but promised not to block it. According to Orban, the start of negotiations is a “purely politically motivated process.”

In his statement, Orban noted the need to carefully study the potential consequences of admitting a country that is at war to the European Union and “has fuzzy boundaries.” Orbán has expressed particular concern about the impact on EU agriculture if a country with significant agricultural potential like Ukraine joins the union.

The EU began negotiations on the accession of Ukraine

  • Negotiations between the delegations of the European Union and Ukraine started in Luxembourg on June 25 about the entry of our state. Next, Ukraine must open and close 35 negotiating sections, which consist of six thematic clusters.
  • Belgian Foreign Minister Aja Labib, who represents the EU in the negotiations, also presented the negotiating framework Ukraine on accession to the EU. The Belgian diplomat noted that Ukraine will need to fully accept and continue to implement reforms in its state.
  • At the same time, Vladimir Zelensky called this day historic. The President emphasized that Ukraine will become a full member of the EU, and the question now is the technical work of Ukraine with the European Union.
