Orban is clearly afraid of Putin: will he decide to visit Kyiv at the invitation of Zelensky

Despite its membership in the EU and NATO, Hungary works closely with Russia and flirts with the Putin regime. This leaves a negative mark on relations with Ukraine, but Viktor Orban could have changed everything.

Dmitry Tuzhansky, director of the Institute for Central European Strategy, spoke about this on Channel 24. According to him, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban can change the image of Vladimir Putin's main ally in Europe.

Will Orban come to Ukraine

Dmitry Tuzhansky said that in any case, Viktor Orban now has the image of the main ally of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in Europe, but if he responded positively to Vladimir Zelensky's invitation to visit Ukraine, this would change, and he could balance Hungarian politics.< /p>

According to Tuzhansky, there are people surrounded by Orban who urged him to visit Ukraine last year, but he is so afraid of Putin and the Kremlin that he does not dare to do this.

He also cannot afford to make at least a pro-Ukrainian statement, because he is afraid of similar consequences taken by Russia in relation to Bulgaria, which supplied Ukraine with Soviet ammunition. For this, Russia stopped supplying gas to Bulgaria.

Orban will have to completely change his foreign policy

Dmitry Tuzhansky is convinced that the problem is not in finding other gas suppliers, but in the fact that Hungary will have to abandon not only its anti-Ukrainian position, but also its anti-Western and anti-American.

An alternative gas supply from Russia means agreements with the Americans, along with the EU, Norwegians, Poles. If visits to Kyiv are filled with content, then this will be an epoch-making or fundamental change in Orban's foreign policy, Tuzhansky said.

The director of the Institute for Central European Strategy doubts that the Hungarian prime minister is ready for this, but, according to him, it is not difficult to do this, because there is a demand within the party and society.

Dependence on Russia is a burden

Dmitry Tuzhansky noted that Hungary's dependence on Russia is already a burden for Hungary itself, but there are many arguments to abandon such dependence, but Orban is in no hurry.

In any case, he will have to enter into a dialogue with the EU and Ukraine, because Ukraine's accession to the EU will begin in the coming years and active negotiations will be held on this issue, and this issue will not be resolved without the participation of Hungary.

Well, opinion Tuzhnansky, it would be beneficial for Ukraine and Hungary if Viktor Orban, at least, simply kept silent about the situation in Ukraine. As the director of the Institute for Central European Strategy noted, Orban knows how to do this in matters that are beneficial to him, for example, when he needs money from European funds.

Hungary's position on the war: recent news

  • The Hungarian prime minister never ceases to get into diplomatic scandals, playing along with Russian propaganda. The head of the administration of the Hungarian Prime Minister, Gergely Guiyash, said that Ukraine's membership in NATO would mean an immediate world war.
  • Political scientist Nikolai Davydyuk believes that Orban's flirting with Putin could cost Hungary very dearly, because of this, it could be excluded from EU.
  • While the entire civilized world supports Ukraine in the war with Russia, Viktor Orban publicly humiliates it.
