Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who is a friend of Vladimir Putin, is in favor of lifting sanctions against Russia. In response, the Office of the President stated that Orban hates Ukraine.
The corresponding message was posted on Twitter by adviser to the head of the Presidential Office Mikhail Podolyak. He called Hungary a “Trojan horse” in the European Union
Podolyak called Hungary a “Trojan horse”
According to Mikhail Podolyak, Orban's Hungary is striving for the collapse of the European Union. Also, the adviser to the head of the Presidential Office added that the Hungarian prime minister dreams of the so-called “Russian world” in Europe.
Orban says he will fight for the lifting of sanctions against Russia. Let's call a spade a spade. Hungary is a “Trojan horse” seeking to break up the EU at the expense of European taxpayers. Orban hates Ukraine and dreams of a “Russian world” in Europe. So should the EU fund these diversions? – wrote Podolyak.
Recently, the media reported that Hungary is demanding that three Russian oligarchs be removed from the sanctions list. We are talking about Alisher Usmanov, Petr Aven and Viktor Rashnikov. Budapest threatens to block sanctions if the named oligarchs are not removed from sanctions.
The EU believes that Budapest can blackmail with sanctions in order to force Brussels to approve monetary assistance to Hungary. But on September 18, the European Commission officially recommended not to allocate funds to Hungary due to problems with the rule of law.
We are talking about blocking an amount of about 7.5 billion euros.
Hungary's position on the war in Ukraine
- Hungary has a dubious position on Russia's military intervention in Ukraine. Budapest should be given credit for humanitarian aid and the reception of refugees.
- But at the same time, Hungary banned its territory from exporting military aid to Ukraine. Hungary is one of two EU countries that does not provide Ukraine with weapons.
- Also, the Orban government prevented the adoption of the 6th package of sanctions, which talked about the oil embargo. Due to the position of Hungary, the oil embargo was partially introduced, because the Druzhba pipeline was not subject to the restriction.
- Recently, Hungary did not support visa restrictions for tourists with Russian citizenship.
- During the war, the Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto made an official visit to Moscow, where he agreed on an uninterrupted gas supply. At the same time, the Kremlin uses gas blackmail against other EU members.
- As for Viktor Orban, the Hungarian prime minister made several scandalous statements about the war in Ukraine. In particular, the other day he said that Ukraine could lose a third or half of its territory.
- The Hungarian leader said that Ukraine has the right to defend against Russia, but “bookmakers do not give it much chance.” He also said that Ukraine will not defeat Russia with the current NATO strategy.
