Orban has taken on new functions: how he helps Putin lie to the world Vera Konoval

Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orban continues to fraternize with Vladimir Putin. Their cooperation is only growing, although it seemed that Hungary had already decided to improve relations with Ukraine.

Orban's visit to Moscow took off all masks and showed that Budapest’s position on the issue of the Russian-Ukrainian war is unchanged. Chairman of the Sitting Rus' charity foundation Olga Romanova spoke about this Channel 24, explaining how Orban is now helping Russia.

How Orban helps Putin

Hungary is allegedly entering into dialogue with Ukraine, and certain diplomatic communications continue. At the same time, Budapest does not stop the dialogue with Russia. He is active and strong as before and now. In particular, this is evidenced by Viktor Orban’s visit to Kyiv, and immediately after – to Moscow.

For the next six months, Hungary will head the Council of Europe. But Orban suddenly took on functions that the presidency of the European Union does not generally provide for. He began talking to Putin, in particular on behalf of the European Union. Therefore, the EU emphasizes that no one gave Orbán the authority to represent the entire bloc. All of Orban’s actions were fully coordinated with Vladimir Putin,” Olga Romanova emphasized.

It seems that the Russian dictator’s strategy has seriously changed. He increasingly recalls the so-called peace negotiations and even claims that he is supposedly ready to end the war. Viktor Orban also helps him spread these narratives.

“Putin is not demonstrating his desire for peace – he does not want it. Putin is demonstrating his desire to start negotiations process and deal with it for as long as he needs. To gain strength, to decide on a strategy, to get used to the new defeats of the Russian economy, Putin is working for the headlines. And the headlines should say that “Russia. offers peace, but the evil Ukrainians do not agree to it.” Nobody reads beyond the headline,” Romanova emphasized.

At the same time, Vladimir Putin is offering absolutely unrealistic conditions, not to mention for peace, and even for negotiations. His demands are unacceptable neither for Ukraine, nor for the West, and even for Hungary itself.
