Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban gave an interview to the Swiss publication Die Weltwoche after his visit to Kyiv on July 2. In the conversation, the head of the Hungarian government told the details of the press conference with Vladimir Zelensky.

So, Viktor Orban noted what he said during the meeting with the President of Ukraine. And also what was the position of Vladimir Zelensky regarding the statements of the Hungarian side.

What Orban said about the conversation with Zelensky

Victor Orban noted in an interview that the press conference with Vladimir Zelensky was “a little cool.” After all, according to the Hungarian leader, the Ukrainian side’s expectations “were very high and uncertain.”

The Hungarian Prime Minister also once again tried to distance himself from the war in Ukraine, saying that “we have a different position,” “this is not our war.” And the Hungarian interest, as Orban said in a comment to a journalist, “is not a continuation of the war, but rather peace.”

Time passes, and peace is very important. However, my mission was not to convince Zelensky or make him an offer (regarding a ceasefire – Channel 24). But to clarify what his proposal is and where his limits are when we talk about peace,” Orban said in an interview.

In addition, the head of the Hungarian government said , that his proposal was only to make a report to the European Council on the possibility of peace.

How, according to the Hungarian Prime Minister , Zelensky reacted

Viktor Orban also noted that regarding peace in Ukraine, “there are some proposals, but not much time.” Also, for some reason, the Hungarian leader remembered religion in an interview, noting that “from a Christian point of view, every day is a lost day, because people die every day.”

At the same time, the Hungarian prime minister admitted that he still promoted the narrative of a ceasefire with Russia, which, in his opinion, should have been initiated by Ukraine.

“My idea was to ask Zelensky why we don’t change the order, what is his opinion about the possibility of introducing a ceasefire first, even a limited one, for a few weeks, and during this period to initiate negotiations,” Orban said.

According to the Prime Minister of Hungary, the President of Ukraine responded to his words about a ceasefire that he had some doubts that this would somehow help in bringing peace.

He was not very happy and said: “Let’s think about it,” Viktor Orban said in an interview.

In addition, the Hungarian leader loudly stated that Zelensky allegedly has negative experience with previous ceasefires, which, according to his interpretation, “were not successful for Ukraine.”

According to the Deputy Head of the Office The President listened to this proposal from President Igor Zhovkva, but in response stated a clear and well-known position of Ukraine. That is, that our state has already offered a platform for starting to build a chain in relation to peace in the form of a Peace Summit.
