Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced the objectives of airstrikes on Houthi targets in three Yemeni ports: Hudaydah, Ras Isa and Saif.

He wrote about this on the social network X.

Among the targets targeted were a power plant and the commercial vessel Galaxy Leader, which the minister said was seized by rebels two years ago and used for terrorist activities in the Red Sea.

Katz noted that these actions became part of Operation Black Flag.

“The Houthis will continue to pay a high price for their actions. Yemen's fate is the same as Tehran's. Anyone who tries to harm Israel will suffer, and anyone who raises a hand against Israel will have their hand cut off,” he warned.

According to the Israeli military, the strikes targeted facilities that the Houthis use to obtain weapons from Iran to carry out terrorist plans against Israel and its allies.

Among the damaged infrastructure was the Ras Qanatib power station, which supplied electricity to the cities of Ibb and Taiz.

Before the strikes, an order was issued to evacuate civilians from areas of potential impact, the BBC reports.

Reuters notes that after the attack, the Houthis claimed that their air defenses had successfully repelled the missile strikes. It is also reported that residents of Hodeida were left without electricity as a result of the strike on the main power station.

Hours after the incident, Israel detected two missiles launched from Yemen. Attempts were made to intercept them, but the results are still being verified.

There were no reports of casualties or injuries, according to the Israeli ambulance service.

The Iran-backed Houthis have been actively involved in the conflict on the side of Hamas since October 7, 2023.

Not only do they attack Israel with drones and missiles, but they also target shipping lanes, claiming their campaign is a response to Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip.

The rebels said they would continue to attack all ships heading to Israel, regardless of their origin.

In March, the US added the Houthis to its list of terrorist organizations.

The Economist reports that the economic damage from the Houthis' actions in the Red Sea in 2024 will amount to approximately $200 billion.

Recall that a ship flying the Liberian flag was attacked near Yemen the day before. The Houthis are suspected of the attack.
