One-time event: why France decided to invite the Russian delegation

< p _ngcontent-sc139 class="news-annotation">France invited Russia to events marking the 80th anniversary of the Allied landings in Normandy. Because of the arrest order, Vladimir Putin will not go there, but there are plans to invite one of the Kremlin representatives. This could be Sergey Lavrov.

This opinion 24 Channel was expressed by political scientist and Ukrainian Armed Forces officer Taras Berezovets, noting that this will be a one-time event to discuss the nuances of foreign policy. He also added that Emmanuel Macron’s rhetoric on the Russian-Ukrainian war has changed dramatically.

France may invite Lavrov

According to Berezovets, France cannot invite Putin because it would be a humiliation and a problem for them. They are now considering an invitation from Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov, who is under sanctions. He cannot just fly into either the US or the EU without a special decision, which must be agreed upon by all members of the European Commission. France itself cannot provide Lavrov with such an invitation.

Inviting Lavrov, according to the political scientist, will be a one-time event. Talking to him face to face makes sense. Moreover, the meeting on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Allied landings in Normandy will take place on June 6, that is, 10 days before the peace summit and everything can change.

The appearance of Lavrov or another Russian representative to convey information could work, Berezovets noted.

Change in Macron's rhetoric

The political scientist also said that Macron, who promised to send troops to Ukraine and give weapons, said that Russia should not win, has now changed his rhetoric and is proposing a truce during the Olympic Games in Paris.
