One of the leaders before the elections: why Germany supports the pro-Russian party of Alexander Sadovaya

Snap elections to the Bundestag will be held in Germany on February 23. The pro-Russian party “Alternative for Germany” has a high chance. Overall, all parties with pro-Russian rhetoric have approximately 30% support among Germans.

The popularity of the Alternative for Germany is, in particular, due to the fact that they press on the “pain points” of the country's citizens. This opinion was voiced to 24 Kanal by German political scientist Sergei Sumlenny.

The party is gaining popularity

Sergei Sumlenny noted that the Alternative for Germany appeared in 2012-2013 as a party of anti-European skeptics. This was caused by the dissatisfaction of Germans with economic aid to Greece during the “euro crisis”. Then they were against some countries being responsible for the debt obligations of others. Then the party failed to get into the Bundestag.

Subsequently, the Alternative for Germany was transformed into a right-wing radical party. They began their growth spurt. Russia saw that these are “interesting people” to undermine German society.

The political force continues to increase its ratings. “Alternative for Germany” appoints its mayors in some cities in the east of the country. In all regions of East Germany, the party is most supported by the population. They are also increasing their presence in the western regions.

We must understand that the popularity of “Alternative for Germany” is not only because they are only right-wing or only pro-Russian. They obviously hit the sore spots that exist in society: economic stagnation, inflation, unclear government policy. Even towards Ukraine, because they want or do not want to help, – the political scientist emphasized.

At the same time, “Alternative for Germany” has a clear position on all issues. The party skillfully plays on the mood of the German population.
