We previously talked about Massachusetts National Guard soldier Jack Teixeira. On March 4, he admitted that he caused one of the largest leaks of national defense secrets in recent years.

Teixeira agreed to a prison sentence. He will be behind bars for 16 years for causing the Pentagon leak. Please note that this may be the longest sentence in a case involving illegal storage of information.

Agreed with all six charges

In the signed plea agreement, 22-year-old Teixeira agreed to plead guilty to all six charges of intentional storage, as well as transfer of information that constitutes a state secret. In exchange, prosecutors agreed not to bring additional charges against him under the Espionage Act.

The prosecutor, during a hearing in federal court in Boston, where the National Guardsman admitted his guilt, said that Teixeira “gained access to and printed hundreds of secret documents”, and posted these images on Discord before his arrest in April 2023.

Please note that federal prosecutors clearly stated that Teixeira had nothing to do with classified information because this was not required by the position he held.

The defendant's job was to troubleshoot computer workstations, said Assistant U.S. Attorney Jason Casey.

At the same time, Casey noted that Teixeira received access to “hundreds” of classified documents in the secure room where he performed work. And he “purposefully deleted classified documents and information despite warnings from his superiors to stop doing so.”

Casey added that Teixeira posted the material on Discord under the pseudonym theexcalibereffect. And that he “took measures to conceal his illegal activities.”

Without specifics, federal prosecutors said Teixeira published information about the compromise by a foreign adversary of certain accounts belonging to a US company, as well as information about equipment that the United States sent to Ukraine. About how it was transferred and how it will be used after receiving it.

Prosecutors said Teixeira also published materials about how troops were moving in Ukraine, plot by a foreign enemy to attack US forces abroad, and Western supplies to the battlefield in Ukraine.

  • – “You knew it was classified, didn’t you?” Talwani asked Teixeira.
  • – “Yes, your honor,” Teixeira replied.

Please note that Teixeira was 21 years old at the time of his arrest. In June 2023, he pleaded not guilty to six charges.

Note that Teixeira joined the Air National Guard in 2019. Since 2021, according to the Ministry of Justice, had access to state secrets.
