Protests broke out in Georgia against the adoption of the bill on foreign agents. Unarmed Georgians stood under the parliament building, defending their rights. In particular, this courageous woman with the EU flag.

A video from a rally in Tbilisi on March 7 has been circulated online. During it, the Georgians opposed the approval of the bill on the so-called foreign agents.

Flag waving despite water cannons

In a video posted online, you can see a brave Georgian woman. She courageously stood and waved the flag of the European Union, while law enforcement officers tried to wash away the protesters with water cannons.

At some point, people around were knocked down by a powerful wave of water. But they got up and continued to defend their rights. The police tried to wash away the woman herself, but they did not succeed. She was surrounded on all sides by other protesters, protecting her from the icy water.

This is yet another demonstration that the strength of people lies in their unity. And we are very proud of the Georgians, who are now fighting for their future and the future of their descendants.

Briefly about the rally in Georgia

  • It was still restless in Tbilisi on the afternoon of March 7th. Then it became known that the parliamentarians during the plenary session plan to adopt a number of bills. Among them – about the so-called foreign agents.
  • Soon, under the parliament, not indifferent citizens of the country unfurled the flags of Georgia and the European Union. Thus, they wanted to remind the parliamentarians that their course is towards Europe, and not towards Russia, where such a law is already in force.
  • Subsequently, the protesters began to disperse law enforcement officers. Special forces arrived under the parliament building. They wanted to drive the protesters away with tear gas and water cannons.
  • The President of Georgia, who is in the US, reacted to the situation in the country. Salome Zurabishvili not only canceled all meetings scheduled at the UN. She also noted that she would “veto” the law.

I appeal to you, to those who are standing on Rustaveli tonight, as I myself have stood many times. I am with you because you represent free Georgia. A country that belongs to free Europe and no one can take it away. Nobody needs this law, it was written under the dictation of Moscow,โ€ she stressed.

  • Already at about 2 am on March 8, it became known that the special forces managed to completely capture the territory adjacent to the parliament. There was also confirmation that law enforcement officers captured the leader of the Gorchi – More Freedom party, Zurab Japaridze.
