Oleg Tsarev's conviction in absentia

According to the SBU, former MP Tsarev received a prison sentence in another criminal case, since he was found guilty of financing armed aggression of Russia.

— Since the offender is hiding from justice, the case was heard in a special court proceeding in absentia (in the absence of the accused), — explained in the SBU.

Thus, based on the materials of the SBU, the court sentenced Tsarev to 8 years in prison, and also confiscated all of his property.

In particular, the following were seized in favor of Ukraine:

  • two property complexes in the temporarily occupied Crimea: the Kirov sanatorium and the Princess Baryatinskaya Estate Museum, the total value of which is more than 456 million UAH;
  • an apartment in the center of Dnepr worth 3.2 million UAH;
  • a land plot in the Kyiv region, which is estimated at 1.3 million UAH.

The SBU indicates that the former regional MP regularly finances the budget of the aggressor country in the form of paying taxes for his recreational business in the temporarily occupied Crimea. In addition, Tsarev finances the Russian paramilitary service Rosgvardia, which he pays for the protection of the above-mentioned facilities.

Based on the evidence collected by Security Service investigators, the court found Tsarev guilty under Part 3 of Art. 110-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (financing actions committed with the aim of changing the boundaries of the territory or state border of Ukraine).

Comprehensive measures are currently underway to bring the ex-MP to justice for crimes against Ukraine.

Before this, the SBU informed Tsarev of suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The indictment on these facts has been sent to court. In addition, in 2022, he already received his first in absentia court sentence under other articles: 12 years of imprisonment.
