The Togolese (west Africa)-flagged cargo ship Seama hit an anti-ship mine in the Black Sea about 40 kilometers (25 miles) off the coast of Romania.
The ship was known to be carrying cement and was heading to the port of Izmail, in the Odessa region.
According to CNN, on September 20 at about 6:50 am, the crew of the ship reported an explosion, after which their engine room began to flood.

The Romanian maritime rescue agency MRCC reported that 12 crew members of the Togo-registered vessel Seama were evacuated and taken for medical treatment to the port of Sulina near the border with Ukraine.
According to preliminary information , the explosion occurred in the ship's engine room.
The crew believes the ship hit a mine, but Romanian authorities said they have not yet confirmed the cause of the explosion.
