Russians may interfere with mobile communications. The reason for this is the fact that the Kremlin's mercenaries have access to cellular equipment in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine.

The Center for Combating Disinformation warns about this. They published special codes with which each user can check for call forwarding on their own number.

The CPI warns the citizens of Ukraine that the occupiers may resort to wiretapping telephone calls made through Ukrainian telecom operators. This is possible because the Russians have access to cellular equipment in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine.

How is interference with mobile communications possible

The Center for Countering Disinformation stressed that this may be due to “parallel” redirects. Using this function, the call can go simultaneously to two numbers of the direct subscriber and someone else's number.

How to protect yourself from enemy listening

CPI has published several service codes with which Ukrainians can protect themselves and those close to them from interference by invaders in mobile communications.

Service codes allow you to check the presence of call forwarding on the user's number.

The given service codes are universal and suitable for all phones:

*#21# call – check information about enabled forwarding. *#43# call – call waiting service status. *#62# call – check forwarding to another number. *#33# call – displays the blocking status of outgoing services: calls, SMS and data. ##002# call – delete all call forwards.

For confidential conversations, the Disinformation Action Center advises using messengers with secure encryption. Among them: WhatsApp, Viber, Telegram, Signal.

Mobile communications on the territory of Ukraine:

  • Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Ministry of Digital Development Mikhail Fedorov said that technical teams managed to restore the mobile communications of Ukrainian operators in temporarily occupied Kherson.
  • As of April 10, Kyivstar resumed communications in several settlements near Mariupol.
  • In particular, communications and Internet from Kyivstar appeared in Mangush and Melekino. It was also possible to restore communication in Berdyansk, Zaporozhye region.
