In the temporarily occupied Volnovakha, Donetsk region, the invaders have been forcing children to go to educational institutions since April 11. Probably, such actions of the invaders are aimed at complicating the liberation of the city by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Also, in this way, the Russians can arrange provocations with victims to discredit and accuse the Ukrainian side. This was stated by the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada for Human Rights, Lyudmila Denisova.
According to her, in this case, the children will actually become hostages and human shields for the Russian troops.
The occupying country endangers the right to life of children, guaranteed by the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the 1949 Geneva Convention for the Protection of Civilians in Time of War,” Denisova stressed.
Against the backdrop of these events, the Ombudswoman appealed to The UN Commission of Inquiry into Human Rights Violations During Russia's Military Invasion of Ukraine and an expert mission established by the OSCE participating States, asking them to take into account these war crimes and violations of children's rights.
