Now they're moving in Abkhazia: what combination does Russia want to play against Georgia Petro Sineokiy

In unrecognized Abkhazia, rallies against the conclusion of an investment agreement with Russia continue. This should not be viewed as an ordinary conflict. Russia is slowly stretching “its hands” through Abkhazia all the way to Georgia.

Political scientist, executive director of the International Association of Small Communities Alexey Buryachenko told Channel 24 about this, noting that the protests in Abkhazia are part of a larger chain.

What's happening in Abkhazia

As Buryachenko noted, both Abkhazia and South Ossetia are Georgian territories occupied by Russia. They have an absolutely pro-Russian government. And now the Kremlin wants to pull off its own scheme.

The opposition to the current president is against signing a deep investment agreement between Abkhazia and Russia. What is the essence of this? According to it, the “gateway” of Abkhazia will be completely opened for Russian investors. They will effectively receive more property rights than the residents of Abkhazia, and will simply buy up everything in the region. Everything will be under Russia. Most likely, the same will happen with South Ossetia, Buryachenko said.

Against this background, the pro-Russian “Georgian Dream” was re-elected in Georgia. And a situation may well arise in which Russia will start “returning” the occupied territories.

Then politicians from the current Georgian government will say that “our policy led to the return of territories, and the pro-European policy led to losses.” This will strengthen their electoral positions. But in this case, Georgia will completely fall under Russia.

If Abkhazia and South Ossetia “return” to Georgia in this way, there will be no chance for a pro-Western movement. There will be a branch of Russia with Russian business, where everything Georgian is squeezed out. Thus, Georgia will completely fall under the protectorate of Russia without war, Buryachenko emphasized.

Recall that the opposition in Abkhazia agreed with “president” Aslan Bzhania that he would resign. The local “parliament” will consider his statement if the protesters leave the “government” complex, which they entered as a result of the protests.
